Building Fremont

Strategy & Concepting / Art Direction / Logo Design / Print & Digital Design / Events & Tradeshows

What was once a game about neighborhood building and construction workers evolved into a casino and Las Vegas lover’s dream. Building Fremont is a board game that was originally titled Rolling Acres. Through playtesting at conventions and thorough development, the board received several iterations alongside the theme. The final design evokes a whimsical vintage Las Vegas where players can build their casino empire.

Overview

From a lush, green neighborhood to a dry, desert landscape of Nevada, each design iteration did very well during playtesting and received recognition and attention at game competitions. Fremont Street is one of the first main roads in Las Vegas, and the bright lights, vintage casinos, and gambling all serve as the backdrop and inspiration for the final iteration of the board design.

How We Helped

In each version of the board, clear communication with UI design is important to ensure ease of play for any level user. Iconography, contrast, and vibrant colors are all used to draw players’ attention and help them understand gameplay.

The front of the box showcases a muted design of Fremont Street in the past. When the game box is opened, players are transported into the casino and are greeted by bright, flashy colors and exciting high-stakes gameplay. The board game elements draw inspiration from not only vintage Las Vegas, but slot machines, betting tables, and roulette wheels.

Heavy Heart’s ability to take very complex requirements and seamlessly incorporate them into an eye-popping design is incredible.  In board game design, the only constant is change and Heavy Heart is a partner that doesn’t flinch when you need to make changes in direction, whether large or small.  You can tell that they love what they do with the sincerity they tackle each task.
